A few quick notes as the Huskies and Scarlet Knights get set to take the floor at the RAC.

— As coach Jim Calhoun said Friday, Niels Giffey will start for the Huskies at small forward. It will be Giffey’s first start of the season and the 11th of the sophomore’s career.

Alex Oriakhi will keep his starting spot at the other forward slot. Calhoun had toyed with the idea of moving Tyler Olander back into the starting lineup.

Oriakhi, who has started in 79 of the 89 career games he’s played in, has obviously been struggling lately. We’ll see if he can turn things around against the Scarlet Knights.

— UConn, much as it had against Seton Hall until this week, has dominated its series against Rutgers. The Huskies have won 10 straight and 18 of the 19 meetings between the teams since Rutgers joined the league in 95-96.

Rutgers only win in the series since 1978 was Jan. 30, 2002.
