West Virginia pre-game primer

We’re at the old mall in Hartford for a new-school Big East matchup. UConn and West Virginia are getting set for the first Big Monday of the year.

A few notes before we tip off:

— UConn fell from No. 8 all the way down to 17 in the Associated Press poll released Monday. It’s believed to be the biggest drop for the Huskies in their poll history.

Two losses in New Jersey will do that to you. Seton Hall, incidentally, broke into the rankings at No. 24.

UConn also dropped in the coaches’ poll, though not quite as far. It’s 16 in those rankings.

–As for the starting lineup, it’ll be the same as it was against Seton Hall: Niels Giffey and Alex Oriakhi at the forwards, along with Shabazz Napier, Jeremy Lamb and Andre Drummond.

I’m guessing that Drummond will draw West Virginia’s Kevin Jones first but we’ll see. And there will be a fair amount of switching based on fouls/success rate.
