A 3-guard starting lineup; Pope out

UConn and Seton Hall are getting ready to go here in Hartford.

As we all know by now, UConn coach Jim Calhoun is beginning his medical leave today. His case of spinal stenosis will keep him out for at least this game and Monday night’s against Louisville.

George Blaney will be at the helm in Calhoun’s stead again.

Here are a couple notes before we get under way:

— Seton Hall C Herb Pope (ribs) is out. According to J.P. Pelzman of The Record, he didn’t even make the trip.

— The Huskies will use yet another starting lineup today, opting to go with the three-guard look from the opening tap.

Shabazz Napier, Ryan Boatright, Jeremy Lamb, Tyler Olander and Andre Drummmond will be on the floor to get things going.

It’s the 8th different starting lineup UConn has used this season.

— UConn Director of Basketball Administration Karl Hobbs has received one of those NCAA waivers and is once again officially a “coach.”

The former UConn assistant and George Washington head coach can move in with Calhoun out of action.

— In the house today: former Holy Cross and Pittsburgh head coach (and Louisville assistant) Ralph Willard. Willard’s son Kevin, obviously, is Seton Hall’s head coach.
