SOME BAD NEWS from the UConn basketball team Saturday morning.
Graduate student guard R.J. Evans has an injured clavicle (a sternal-clavicular injury) and will miss “a couple weeks” of action with the Huskies. Evans suffered the injury in practice Thursday.
“Everybody’s got to step up,” head coach Kevin Ollie said. “He played an integral part; he played 20 minutes a game. He was doing a lot of key things for us that don’t show up in the stats.”
In addition, freshman forward Leon Tolksdorf has a sprained knee and will be held out of Sunday’s game against Stony Brook.
“He just tweaked his knee it a little bit, the same one he had a torn ACL on,” Ollie said of Tolksdorf. “I don’t see it being something that will linger, but we’re being cautious. He’ll probably be out of (Sunday’s) game.”
Ollie said that if the injury had been a fracture, Evans would have been out at least six weeks. As it stands now, however, it should be more like two weeks.
“Tough loss but we’ve got some able soldiers to come in and help us grow,” Ollie said. “He’s going to do his rehab, I’m not worried about him. Hopefully he’ll be back in a couple weeks.”
