Fordham, UConn ready to go

UConn and Hofstra Fordham are about to tip here in Hartford. A few quick notes before they do:

— IN CASE YOU missed, here’s today’s story from the JI, with a look at Kevin Ollie’s contract situation.

BOB VALVANO WAS SCHEDULED to work the game for SNY/ESPN Regional this evening but suffered a “mild” heart attack while about to leave his home in Louisville.

Valvano, the younger brother of the late Jim, has been replaced by Malcolm Huckaby in the analyst’s chair. Huckaby, the former Bristol Central and Boston College standout, has obviously been to the old mall in several capacities over the years.

— I HAVEN’T SEEN him yet but Kahari Beaufort is supposed to be in the house tonight. The 6-foot-4 native of East Hartford, Beaufort is a fairly highly sought after recruit in the Class of 2014.

Baylor, Drexel, Hofstra, Miami and Providence are among the schools also interested in Beaufort.
