UConn about to get Melvin’d?

Greetings from Gampel Pavilion, where the UConn basketball team is about to take on DePaul.

— IN CASE YOU missed it, here’s today’s story previewing the game, including a look back at the little “fight” Ryan Boatright and DeAndre Daniels had.

— THE HUSKIES ARE trying to avoid an 0-2 start in Big East play.

UConn hasn’t been 0-2 in Big East play since the “Dream Season” of 1989-90. That season UConn lost to Villanova 64-57 in Hartford on Dec. 12 then was absolutely blasted by St. John’s Jan. 2 at Alumni Hall (Carnesecca Arena) 93-62.

(That was UConn’s last game played on the St. John’s campus, FYI)

After that loss to St. John’s, the Huskies then rattled off 10 straight wins (seven in the league plus UMass, Fairfield and CCSU) and began to really get rolling.

— THE HUSKIES ARE squaring off with Cleveland Melvin again tonight. The one-time UConn commit has had some success against his “former” team already.

Melvin has scored 25, 11 and 19 points in three games against UConn (along with 12, 4 and 9 rebounds), though he’s shooting just 23-of-56 from the floor in those games.

— UCONN WILL USE the same starting lineup that it has been lately. Tyler Olander will continue to start in the middle with Enosch Wolf coming off the bench.
