UConn senior forward Tyler Olander was suspended indefinitely from the basketball team Monday afternoon. This came on the heels of his arrest for DUI Saturday night.
Olander was pulled over on Route 195 by state police at 10:49 Saturday night. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, operating (or towing) an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle in violation of classification.
Police said Olander, 21, failed field sobriety tests given at the scene.
Police did not note a court date for Olander to appear. It seems likely that he would have appeared Monday morning but a Rockville Superior Court official said Olander was not on the docket.
The 6-foot-9 Olander, an E.O. Smith product, had a rather disappointing junior season (4.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg) that ended when he broke a bone in his left foot in the Huskies’ penultimate game.
Olander was also arrested while on Spring Break in Panama City, Florida this March. The charges of trespassing were later dismissed after Olander complied with a few court-ordered steps.
